Publication Ethics

Introduction

At JERAMI: Indonesian Journal of Crop Science, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of ethical conduct in all aspects of our publication process. Publication ethics are essential in ensuring the integrity, quality, and reliability of the research published in our journal. These ethics not only safeguard the trust placed in scientific findings by the academic community and the public but also protect the rights of all individuals involved in the research and publication process.

Ethical guidelines in publication ensure that research is conducted and presented honestly, transparently, and with respect for the rights and dignity of participants. Our policies are guided by the principles outlined by leading organizations such as the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). We strongly encourage all authors, reviewers, and editors to familiarize themselves with these principles and adhere to them strictly.

Detailed Aspects of Publication Ethics

1. Authorship and Contributorship

All individuals who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the research should be listed as authors. Authors should ensure that all co-authors agree with the content of the manuscript and have approved the final version before submission. Contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be acknowledged appropriately.

2. Plagiarism and Originality

Authors must ensure that their work is entirely original and that any work or ideas of others are properly cited or quoted. Manuscripts submitted for publication must not have been published elsewhere or be under consideration for publication in another journal. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.

3. Data Access and Retention

Authors may be asked to provide raw data in connection with a manuscript for editorial review and should be prepared to provide public access to such data. Authors must ensure that their data is accurately represented in their manuscripts and should retain their data for a reasonable time after publication.

4. Conflicts of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial or other significant conflicts of interest that might be construed to influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. Reviewers and editors must disclose any conflicts of interest related to the manuscripts they handle and recuse themselves from the review process if necessary.

5. Human and Animal Rights

Research involving human participants must comply with the ethical standards outlined in the Declaration of Helsinki and should have received approval from an appropriate ethics committee. For studies involving animals, authors must ensure that their work complies with relevant ethical guidelines and that all procedures were conducted in accordance with institutional and national guidelines for the care and use of laboratory animals.

6. Peer Review Process

The peer review process is a critical component of the publication process and should be conducted objectively and confidentially. Reviewers are expected to provide constructive feedback and to avoid any form of bias, including that based on nationality, religious or political beliefs, gender, or other characteristics of the authors. Any manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents.

7. Publication Decisions

The final decision to accept or reject a manuscript rests with the journal’s editorial board, which bases its decision on the importance, originality, clarity, and relevance of the manuscript. Editors must evaluate manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.

8. Corrections and Retractions

If an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, it is their responsibility to promptly notify the journal editor and cooperate in retracting or correcting the paper. If the journal identifies a significant error in a published article, the editorial team will take appropriate measures, which may include issuing a correction or retraction.

9. Confidentiality

Editors and editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, and potential reviewers, or other editorial advisers, as appropriate.

10. Ethical Oversight

JERAMI: Indonesian Journal of Crop Science is committed to maintaining the ethical standards of the publication process. Any breaches of publication ethics will be investigated thoroughly, and appropriate actions will be taken in accordance with the guidelines provided by COPE.

By adhering to these ethical guidelines, we ensure that JERAMI: Indonesian Journal of Crop Science maintains the trust of the scientific community and the public, upholding the integrity and quality of the research we publish.

We thank all authors, reviewers, and editors for their commitment to maintaining these high standards.
